Chief Rheumatology Fellow Wins Top Prize at State Conference

We are incredibly pleased to announce that Aradhna Agarwal, MD, MPH, won the top prize for her Thieve’s Market presentation at the New York State Rheumatology Society 2024 Fall Meeting. The Thieve’s Market competition features oral presentations of the most perplexing medical cases from rheumatologists across the state. Dr. Agarwal’s presentation centered on the story of a 75-year-old woman with a history of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) that was treated with an allogeneic stem cell transplant. This patient went on to show features of chronic Graft-Versus-Host Disease, with manifestations that included myositis, sclerosis, sicca symptoms, and changes in skin pigmentation. This complicated patient required coordinated care from rheumatology and hematology/oncology, and Dr. Agarwal’s presentation taught the audience a great deal about this unusual entity.
